Daniel, the youngest of Michael's children, was born on the Fourth of July 1892, which his father thought a very good sign. He enlisted in 1917 and went to France with an infantry division raised in western Pennsylvania.
He was wounded in the Meuse-Argonne offensive. The Pittsburgh paper reported that he died on 8 October 1918 (S11); the War Department card says he died of wounds on 12 October (S12). We keep both dates: the newspaper was probably reporting the day he was wounded. He is buried in France.
