Rose was born Rozália Sabová in Windber in 1905. Her father died in a mine accident in 1907 and her mother two years later; Mary Novak took her in, and in 1910 the Orphans' Court of Somerset County confirmed the adoption (S13). She is the little girl at the right of the 1906 photograph, taken when she was still the neighbours' child (S8).
Rose grew up as Helen's younger sister in everything but birth. She worked as a telephone operator, married late, and died in 1993.
