Thomas, called Tom, was born in Lawrenceville in September 1921. He served as a navy radio operator in the Pacific and came home in 1946 to a job with the electric company. At a St. Matthew's parish dance on the South Side — he had gone with a Slovak friend from work — he met Dorothy Novak.
They married at St. Matthew's in June 1949, and the Irish and Slovak sides of the family stood together on the church steps for the first time (S17). Tom and Dottie had three children and lived for forty years in a frame house in Brookline. Tom died in December 1998.
